After a much needed blog vacation (we'd recommend it to anyone) we're looking forward to giving you the skinny on a bunch of products we've been testing, sharing some personal stories, and shedding light on what's really in a couple of questionable products by inviting you, dear readers, to join us in funding some crucial lab testing.
We'll start the new year with a renewed focus on concise but meaty reviews, pithy safety updates and analysis, and snapshots from our off-the-blog lives as we get back into the swing of this daily blogging thing. After that, some surprises.
Here's one for that third category: Z performing at her holiday violin recital. She was very proud of herself, and wanted you to see it.
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and have a bright outlook for the coming year. We're committed to making 2010 the best yet for Z Recommends, and for parent-driven consumer research and advocacy. Happy new decade!
Awesome video- question, traditional lessons or suzuki? We’ve been thinking about piano lessons for our son, but traditional lessons usually don’t start until 6 or 7…

Way to Go Zella!!! I loved seeing you perform again. You are my favorite Violinist ever!!!!!!! Love, Ame Peggy
Z started taking lessons last summer just a month or so before she turned 5. We have a Suzuki teacher who believes that children learn best when one of the parents is also learning so it’s a family event! We all rent our violins from a local string & horn shop. Z started with a 1/16th sized instrument and is now using a 1/10th sized violin but we’ll probably go this weekend to get her a slightly larger one as she’s grown a little.
go Z! that’s an awesome video.
happy new year!
Well done, Z! That’s one of my favorites. I also loved the way you walked out with your violin under your arm like a pro. Glad to have y’all back!
Oh my word, the cuteness! She’s a sweetpea. Love seeing her gain confidence through the performance!
Glad y’all are back! -@monsterchew
TOO SWEET! Go Zella! Love, Ahma
ADORABLE! What did you find to be the best source for quarter-size violins? when did your daughter start taking lessons?
She’s SO cute. Good job Z!
Way to go, Z!

Neat! My husband learned by Suzuki. His sister is still playing Violin (he changed to viola as he got older)
But he really enjoyed it and I know he wants our kids to play as well.
