Hacks, discussions, and must-see studies and safer-product guidance

Yeah, it's a big ol' jambalaya of links but that's just how we like it, hot! Here are a few great posts and resources we've noticed in the past week:

  • Cookie Magazine's "nesting" blog ran a post about homemade teepees recently. If you read it you'll see me reading to Z by lamplight in our own homemade teepee!

  • Thingamababy has an interesting discussion going regarding toddler-on-toddler conflict. We find it particularly interesting because we faced a similar situation recently with a kid at Z's daycare. It's good blogging fodder, but suffice to say for now it's being taken care of. (Cracks knuckles.) Just kidding. It was a little scary.

  • The Natural Resources Defense Council has released a searchable guide to flea and tick products, many of which they recommend avoiding when pregnant women or infants are around, and many they say are unsafe under any circumstances. If you have a pet or are in a position of undue influence over someone who does, you'll definitely want to check this out!

  • Crunchy Domestic Goddess has a great roundup of crowdsourced Halloween safety tips.

  • A great idea from Baby Toolkit (of Parents magazine fame) to help toddlers master complex electronics when it matters most.

  • The Environmental Working Group has a new study on contaminants in bottled water, and it ain't pretty. Read the full report, or see their safe drinking water tips.

I like the teepee link
Do you guys know about the safety of silicon bakeware?  My MIL bought me some from the collections etc website.  I am a little leary of letting my girls make jello in them.  All I found was a site (about.com) saying it should be FDA apporved foodgrade silicon and be stamped so.  Mine are not.
