We see a lot of cute baby shoes go by in the kids' product marketplace and rarely dip our toe in. But
Pedipeds caught our attention. In addition to being extremely cute - with nice designs, tight stitching, and a clear focus on quality - their older kids' pairs come with an extra insole so you can swap them out for a longer-lasting shoe. We'd also heard that their shoe soles were very flexible, which is what shoes for the youngest children should be all about.
We asked the company for samples, and got one pair at the infant size, and another in a child's model, and they lived up to their reputation. Pediped infant shoes have a sole that is very padded yet still as flexible as a pair of Robeez or Isabooties making them great for walkers venturing outside. They have Velcro closures and stay put on tiny feet. You can see these baby shoes above, which we gave to Z's infant cousin (the foot model above).

The pair we got for Z to try is still too big for her, but they're adorable. (We misjudged her size. Use the
PDF sizing chart!) But the quality is clear. Even the older kids' shoes (the "FLEX" line) are flexible enough for running and jumping but strong enough to hold up to the more active preschool years, and they have skid-resistant soles (a feature you'd expect from a kid's shoe that many brands actually lack). Velcro closures encourage kids to put them on and take them off independently. And the look, at least while scuff-free, dresses up and down well; Pedipeds can easily transition from nice event to playground fun or the other way around.
Their new Spring and Summer line is out, and they've already run out of a couple of styles, including the Giselle Chocolate Brown Mary Janes above, which were the ones we received. Pediped's Originals (for kids 0-24 months) run $32, the boots $41, and their FLEX shoes for kids ages 1-5 cost $39-$45, with some really cool boots running $57. You can order them from
Pediped's website.
We are HUGE fans of Pedipeds in our house. The only thing I would warn is some of the material - particularly the nubuck. We have the pink Giselle style in infant’s and I didn’t read the care instructions, tried to wipe them down with a damp cloth and trashed them. Also, my teething daughter ended up with a red mouth after her aunt let her chew on the strap. Ha!
But yes, the quality is great, soles are definitely flexible. Are they pricey, yeah, but for quality and adorable shoes, they are worth it. Like Jennifer said, they looked cute with sweats and great with dresses. Very versatile.
LOVE ‘EM!
We love the Giselle’s we got last fall for M, they are regularly the ones that she picks out to wear. Definitely some of our favorite kid’s shoes.
We LOVE Pediped shoes and I have even reviewed them a couple times on Boutique Cafe. I am one of their biggest fans! Another favorite is See Kai Run. Also very well made and good for little feet!
I use these for my baby boy and I get compliments on them every time we are out. I LOVE them. They are so easy to put on and they hold up really well.
These are the only shoes that I have allowed my daughter to wear since she began walking. At first I purchased Robeez but I was unhappy because of the mark the elastic leaves on her tiny little feet. They were the right size and she is petite but I still left a mark. After the Robeez, I tried the Pedipeds and we love them! They are clearly developmentally appropriate for a one year old. Once in a while she tries to chew on them but it never even leaves marks on the shoes. They are well worth the money!
i have a couple pairs for my daughter. I got one as a hand-me-down and the other I bought new on piperlime.com. Neither pair came with an extra sole though. I got 6-12 month sizes, so perhaps that why.
But I agree that they are extremely well made. I also bought a pair of Kai Run shoes, which are also well made.
I think the extra soles are only for the larger sizes, especially their newer Flex line, but I could be wrong. I don’t believe we received extra soles in the infant sizes. We love our Pedipeds!
Thanks for the correction, Emily - I think you’re right. Have fixed in the post.
Love Pedipeds and See Kai Run shoes for my little ones’ feet.
Too bad, too expensive for us; they are really cute! Maybe when our baby gets older & the shoes will get more use out of them.
Sharon - You should try ebay. I have bought a couple of our pairs off of there. If you watch the auctions and snipe them you can get a really good deal.
We love Pediped. My son has gone through one pair of the infant kind and one pair of the Flex.
For deals on Pediped, try Amazon right now. 6pm.com is also a great place to find them for as cheap as $18 and change.
Yes, Pediped and See Kai Run are both a bit on the pricier side but they last forever, which is a great thing if you pass down a lot of shoes. I try to buy some unisex designs since we have both girls and boys. ;)
